Start A Generous blog or journal

Keep a record of your thoughts and actions as you try to live a more generous life.

No matter if you’ve pledged to do one generous action or fifty one, you might find that one thing you CAN do is to keep a journal. A ‘generous’ journal or blog, to remind you of all the thoughts, ideas and reflections you have as you ponder on your success in going a little more Generous.

I want 2006 to be the year that I become more ‘thoughtful’, in both senses of the word. So I began a journal yesterday. I got one small enough to fit in my handbag so that I can jot thoughts down when I have them – too often, I get inspired, or receive wisdom, or feel God speaking, and in the rush of life I forget before I’ve had a chance to stop and reflect.

I already bought a page a day diary to add my reflections and appreciations for each day. I have decided to add my “generous.org” actions to this diary so that I can record my progress. Am looking forward to a really generous year.

One of the best things about the Generous project is the way it helps raise your consciousness about your different choices in life – and their consequences. Writing things down helps me remember things so I’ll give the diary a go – maybe twice a week if I get my act together.

It seems to me that one of the greatest potential benefits of Generous is that it provides an oportunity to be ‘intentional’ and ‘conscious’ about the decisions and actions that we take. Keeping a ‘journal’ should help this. As a partnership of churches (in the Watling Valley) we are trying to see if sharing this as a community will make an impact. I think it will help the experiment if we record this as we go along, so I’m goint to try to do this. At the start of this new year (2006) Isla and I did the survey in Focus which helps you calculate how many planets we would need if everyone lived as we do. We come out with 1.2! Very embarressing, but worth knowing. I wonder if we can finish the year with a more sensible figure? I’m not good with regular journals but I will try to record more thoughts, experiences and actions on the web site. (TN)

I already keep a Live Journal and I’m going to complete this action by talking more about the Generous Project in that forum. Hopefully this will have the dual benefit of encouraging others to take up some of the actions too.

I’m already keeping a journal as part of my doctoral research into awakening collective will in response to climate change. I’m beginning to see how the living generously project is an example of building collective will so recording my own actions and responses seems both like a good idea and a contribution to research. It’s currently a black book into which I enter reflections, readings, poems and pictures. Wouldn’t it be good if this site had a blogging facility as well.

Er, how does this work. Not sure! Well anyway, today I put my daily work journey on the local car share web-site. Well done me.

This month I have committed to keeping a journal, as a way of helping me lead a “more balanced, proactive, productive and emotionally healthy life”. I quote from my excellent Adlerian counselling tutor. It will encompass any changes as a result of living generously, both practical and emotional/spiritual.

This will be a challenge for me – which means it is exactly what I need to concentrate on! I am generous in thought but often have trouble following through in giving away my things, my time, my money. Keeping a journal will spur me on to LIVE, not just think, generously. Great idea – THANKS!!

Last Lent I decided my blog http://living-faith.blogspot.com/ would reflect aspects of the Year of Living Generously and I still try to keep that up. This year I’m trying to blog more reflectively for Lent, http://living-faith-prayer.blogspot.com/ .

For anyone looking for a free, easy journal or blog with a sense of community and fun, try efx2.com. It’s very friendly and community-spirited.

I already have a journal, as an effort to think more thoroughly about the decisions I make in my life, and I can thorougly recomend it. I’ve added a special ‘generousness’ category, and am trying to post constructively under that. It is inspiring to write stuff down!

Have given my blog an overhaul. It is very much focused on YoLG and my progress. I thought it was time to take stock. I shall look at moving forward in September. The blog is here http://living-faith.blogspot.com/

My website also looks at YoLG related issues http://living-faith.blogspot.com/ Contributions welcome as I am making slow progress with it.

I’ve started my blog: http://livingenerously.blogspot.com/ – I think the content of it is quite apparent! It’s new so not lots of content but there are lots of links to various things and hopefully people here will find it interesting!? Post comments if you visit, and perhaps anyone else with a blog would like to link back to me? I’m happy to do the same to anyone else who’d like me to.

My husband is a local preacher in Cornwall and will often speak about Generous in his sermons to the congegations. He and I are both proud to be part of the group.

Usually I prefer doing actions where it is something physical and I have been in the past a little against the idea of ‘navel gazing’ but having done Peace SChool this summer I think I have learnt the importance of reflecting on my actions and reflecting before my actions to make them as effective as possible and to make sure I am doing them in the right spirit and with the right motivations.

I have started my journal today! ;)

I have actually tried this one before (before I came here) but I found it very hard to keep up with. However it wasn’t really a Generous Journal, so I’m hoping this will be different.

I’ll let you know how it goes anyway :)

I already keep an abundance journal where I list wonderful things that happen. Last month I got a £600 set of books for £130, got £15 for £4, got free tickets to paid shows, saved £140 on car insurance, I was shown how to make gymnastic dance ribbons which cost over £10 to buy. This is a small part of the wonderful things that happened last month.

By focusing on the good that happens, I hope that it will generate more good.

I’ve just started doing this on my blog, so hopefully people will see it and want to join up too (or at least live more generously without joining). I’m going to try and do it every week.
