Help Your School Start A Travel Plan Or A Walking Bus

Walking-bus-main

After the initial mayhem that marks the start of any school year it’s time to take stock and work out what is the best way to get your children to and from school – without using the car if possible!

Besides taking unilateral action and deciding to walk, scoot or cycle your own clan, most local councils will have information on their websites about setting up what are called ‘walking buses’ if you want to collaborate with other parents on this move (you can even get government grants for setting them up – see here).

There’s also a dedicated Walk to School website that outlines all the benefits – not just for the environment and your children!

And, if you want to be even more ambitious, why not encourage your children’s school to look into setting up a ‘Travel Plan’ of its own aimed at reducing the amount of individual car journeys to and from its premises each day. Point them to this great website for help with this.
