   Fortunately for me, the New York Library has an incredible collection and a great online search and reservation system.

   I typically build a wishlist in amazon and reserve the book at the library when I have time to read the book I’m looking for.

   They have a good selection of audiobooks and DVDs too.

   There isn’t a coop near me, but I used to belong to a CSA Farm (Community supported Agriculture) which allows you to subscribe to a share of the harvest.

   Unfortunately, it was a little far from my apartment and I couldn’t always make the pickup times.

   My wife didn’t like being limited to the seasonal availibility. After one year I let my membership lapse.

4. Get Rid of Your Car - OK, ambitious, but... - 29 Nov 2006

   I’ve never owned a car, to the amazement of most of my peers. New York makes it a fairly easy decision since garage rental + insurance + car payments can get costly and public transportation is good.

   I use a car share system called zipcar and am generally satisfied although popular weekends must be reserved months in advance.
