  1. Encourage Others To Go Generous -

reminded a jet set friend that he could buy trees or long lasting lightbulbs to offset the carbon emmissions that result from his flights, and he emailed to say that he was all signed up via: http://www.carbonneutral.com/shop/results.asp?cat1=Flights

  2. Shop Small (Buy local, Switch from the Supermarket) -

i brought a propper granny shopping trolley this time last year. and can count the number of times i’ve been to a super market since then. i moved to where i live now because its near a good market, and when i next move, it will have to be to somewhere with an even better one. www.portobelly.blogspot.com

  3. Stop Taking Plastic Bags From Shops -

i have a good sized handbag which i fit most small purchases without needing a carrier bag. and a granny shopping trolley for grocery shopping. at the market i insist that things are put in paper bags or straight into the basket rather than into plastic first. i found that i now automatically say i dont need a bag, which means that i have to think about asking for a bag on those occassions when i need one, rather than having to remember not to take one. it does mean that i never have bags to use for garbage collection tho…

  4. Switch off and unplug appliances and chargers -

i had no idea. i never unplug mine.

    im un plugging it now.

where is the energy going tho if its not attached to a phone tho? does it just go into the air?

  5. Make A Special Effort To Look Out For Strangers -

helping old ladies carry their shoppers down the stairs, giving away my seat on the tube, thinking of people as fellow humans, not strangers. i have that largely sussed

but think it’s as important to remember to be open when ‘strangers’ are looking out for me. my automatic response is ‘no thanks’ almost before i’ve even thought about the offer.

so when i’m not in control of the ‘thinking of strangers’ situation i’m a bit rubbish.

  6. Compost Your Leftovers -

city dwelling flat dweller. can’t see how i can do this one.

  7. Become A Blood Donor -

i went to give blood when i was 18, took a three of girlfriends with me, though they said they wouldnt do it they just wanted to watch. turned out that i cant give blood- my pressure is so low that it was nigh on impossible to give the first sample, and even now ten years later drs/nurses still struggle to draw blood- but my girlfriends decided to give blood afterall. turned out helen has such a rare blood type that some sick babies need, so she was encouraged to give blood very regularly, and sometimes is called to make a quick donation. so they didnt get my blood that day, but they did get three new doners instead which, all in all, was a pretty good effort on my part ;-)

  8. Use your LOAF at the shops (Local, Organic, Animal-Friendly and Fair Trade) -

Menno, why don’t you buy a shopping trolley, like old ladies often pull. I’ve got one (I was 27 when I brought it). It makes shopping in the market so much easier, and carrying it the 20 minutes walk to your home would be a doddle.

  9. Buy Ethical Palestinian olive oil -

I’ve just emailed a few friends that might like to buy some of this olive oil. I’ll let you know if I manage to get an order sorted….
