  1. Recycle Your Inkjet Cartridges -

I saved cartridges for years, never knowing where I could recycle them. Unfortunately, when I moved I finally chucked them. At least now I know what I can do about them in the future!

  2. Sharing with students -

Found a new way to do this! We were going to throw out a couple of old fold-out sponge chair/beds. One had a stain on it and the other wasn’t particularly nice either. But we happened to mention them to a couple of students we had round, and they were really pleased to give them a new home! So we didn’t have to go through the guilt of throwing them away, and they have new furniture in their student rooms!

  3. Make Your Own Greetings Cards -

I made a personalised card for my Dad’s 60th, making a collage of family photos. I made my mum’s by knitting a little mouse in a yellow dress and sticking it on a card with a rose in its paw. It was such fun that I think I will try to remember birthdays far enough in advance to make as many personalised cards as possible!

  4. Get Rid Of Some Of Your Books -

I think I’m going to have a big sort and give some of my books to the American Library here in Nancy (I live in France). I have got so much pleasure out of borrowing their books that I would like my books to give other people pleasure instead of just hoarding them in my flat!

  5. Sharing with students -

And since I’m pregnant we needed to get rid of the single bed we have. Just at the right time we found a student who had just found his first job (so technically an ex-student) and we were able to give him the bed and a whole load of spare plates, pots and pans.

I finished my doctorate in Linguistics in November 2005 here in Nancy, but I really moved to France to participate in church life and outreach. I met my husband here and we’ve been married since summer 2004, and our son was born in December 2006. We already recycle glass, paper, card, tins and so on, and buy Fairtrade goods where we can, but we’d like to be able to do more to limit the damage we do to the environment, and live in a more generous way.
