  1. Make Your Own Greetings Cards -

For the last couple of years a friend and I have put aside a couple of evenings before Christmas to get together to make our Christmas cards. We usually have a glass (or two) of wine to help the process along and give each other opinions and suggestions. It means we actually do it rather than just intending to do it, and it also gives us a good excuse to catch up with each other in our busy lives. We’ve even taken to doing the same thing during the year for birthday cards.

And I agree with the previous people’s comments about cards to local people. I tend to just send them to people i won’t be seeing, although when everyone hands them out at work I do feel a bit mean and end up joining in. Our boss last year emailed us all with a Christmas card email and told us that the money he was saving on cards was going to a charity. Thought that was an excellent idea.

Am very excited as I’ve finally cracked my problem of forgetting to take my used bags into the shop, even if I get as far as putting them into the boot of my car…I’ve bought a bag made of very thin shower-proof polyester, which comes folded up in a tiny little pocket with a key ring on the end. So it’s now always attached to my bunch of keys, which is about the one thing I take everywhere with me. It’s quite funky too and only cost me £2.50. I’ve had it only a week and have used it so many times already! I’m going to get another one to put in my handbag and one for my coat pocket. They’re so small that you can carry plenty on you without even noticing!

  3. Get Rid of Your Car - OK, ambitious, but... -

I’ve always struggled with the idea of giving up my car as I love the independence. However I’ve recently had to be carless for 7 weeks and found that my lifestyle became much more relaxed and calm. It actually did me a lot of good to not constantly fit 100 things into one trip just because I could. I’ve also found it more sociable chatting to fellow passengers on trains etc!

Secondly, there’s a site called www.liftshare.org which in theory is great. The idea is that you register journeys that you do, either on a regular basis (eg to work), or one-offs, and they send you ‘matches’ – people who are doing a similar journey at a similar time – and you then email them and can share the lift. The only problem I’ve found is that a lot of the people registered are out-of-date and so none of my requests or offers with my matches have actually happened. I’m sure it just needs more people joining regularly and telling others about it so that matches do actually work!

I bought mine from a shop in Totnes but I’m afraid I don’t know the name of it. I also saw the onyabags that you mentioned in a shop next door but they were double the price! Sorry can’t be of much help!
