  1. Give Thanks Before A Meal -

I’ve been brought up to do this, we always did as a family, but I participated more out of habit than anything else. It was during a trip to Uganda that I really got why – there, we were given some coke and biscuits as a welcome snack after a long journey, and they prayed for the tiny amount of drink and food, that it would sustain us. I initially thought it was quite funny, until I realised that was as much as some of the locals with us would eat that day. Has really brought home the meaning of thanking God for everything he provides for us, even if in this country it doesnt necessarily feel like it came directly from him. Now we try and do it, even if we’re at restaurants, which can be a bit funny, but essentially, God has provided us the means for our ‘daily bread’!

  2. Compost Your Leftovers -

Hooray! We’ve just got a compost bin, and I’m very excited about it… have been thinking about getting one for a while but YoLG has made me think about it more and more…so here we go! (is it a bit sad to be quite so excited about compost?!)

  3. Make A Positive Lifestyle Change And Tell Us About It -

started getting a vegetable box from a local supplier. Vegetable are SO tasty, and it’s really helping us to eat more healthily.

  5. Use your LOAF at the shops (Local, Organic, Animal-Friendly and Fair Trade) -

We’ve started getting a veg box from a local supplier in Birmingham (I was quite surprised to discover a farm only 2 miles away from us – run by an incredibly frienldy couple!) www.organicroots.co.uk

We’ve also been to their farm shop, and bought some organic meat. It is more expensive, but, we now eat less of it, and more vegetables instead. (we’ve also opted for smaller portions – only to be generous to our waistlines!) so I’m not finding that our shopping bill has gone up too much. I have been one to waste food on the past, but am now shoving all the leftover veg into a soup…some interesting tastes, but great fun!

I really do think its worth it – I am now actually enjoying what I eat!

  6. Slap a Ticket on an Urban 4x4 -

I met a lady this week who was late for an appointment with me. she mentioned that she had trouble parking her car – she drives a discovery, which doesn’t fit in some spaces. I did think about this action, I work in a rather posh slightly rural area, and there are many 4×4s about – and it is one of my pet hates. She then went on to tell me that she’d had a sticker put on her car, and she was actually quite uspet about this. She has 14 acres of land and keeps animals. She uses the car for transporting hay etc. She said the worst thing about having somebody targeting you, is that you have no chance to explain yourself to them. She didn’t need to tell me any of this, but it had obviously affected her enough to want to explain herself.

I dont know if its fair to pass judgement on other people’s choices in this way. Perhaps if you want to put your name and address on the back of the stickers so the recipient can chat to you about their reasons….somehow I dont think people will take me up on this!! I dont agree with a lot of people’s reasons for driving 4×4s, but I wonder if there’s another way of dealing with this?

And yes, Im sure this can be a ‘fun’ action to do, but when it upsets people, Im not so sure.
