  1. Become A Blood Donor -

I am very proud of myself. I recently gave blood for the first time in 5 years. I gave twice before and fainted both times, so I was a bit worried that I’d do it again. I think I just got a bit freaked out and couldn’t stop thinking about blood draining out of me!! (sorry if anyone is squeamish!). But I told them I was worried and they were SO nice. and gossiped amusingly with me for the whole time. So my commitment for ‘generous’ is to go 3 times this year. Looking forward to more tunnocks teacakes (they a medically necessity, or thats what I tell myself)!!

  2. Get Rid of Your Car - OK, ambitious, but... -

We decided to get rid of our car last October. I can honestly say that its been really easy. We live in Portobello, Edinburgh where there are lots of buses. We cycle to work. And we joined the city car club, which we hardly use (maybe 3 times a month). We had our first car free holiday on the Isle of Arran, and used the excellent buses there. And we have a family railcard now, much cheaper to travel by train. So I won’t committ to this action since we already did it – but go on, if you live in a city its easier than you think!!

  3. Put A Save-A-Flush Device In Your Cistern -

I just ordered mine from Scottish water. I had no idea that these existed before I joined Generous, or that they were free. I’m going to tell lots of people ….

  4. Buy Ethical Palestinian olive oil -

I have just discovered that a local wee shop in Portobello (its called ‘Ever Green’ if you are ever passing through and need some olive oil!!) so I am going to get organised and do this one…

  6. Plant A Tree -

Managed to do this, even with out having our own garden! My youngest daughter left her nursery this year to start school, so instead of the usual bottles of wine to say thank you we bought an apple tree for the nursery garden!

  7. Put A Save-A-Flush Device In Your Cistern -

This is such an easy action to do in the area I live – very satisfying and I haven’t noticed any difference in flush quality!

  8. Become A Blood Donor -

Went for the second time this year and got as far as lying on the couch thing before they decided that I shouldn’t give. They thought I hadn’t eaten enough that morning (I’d had breakfast, a snack and a lentil salad) and were worried I’d faint (given my past experience). TIP: Eat LOADS of carbohydrate before you go!! Oh well, I’ll try again, but if they refuse me again I’ll be very discouraged. At least during that trip I persuaded a friend to go along too, who wouldn’t have gone otherwise…
