  1. Switch To Energy Saving Lightbulbs -

I only have 2 more bulbs that I can change. I replaced 3 last weekend and I was horrified at the price…around £18 but I was happy in the knowledge I am trying to do my bit. Nt sure when I will see a drop in the electricity bill, especially as it keeps going up and up due to price hikes. My one remaining lightfitting has unusual bulbs so I will have to look out for a compatible energy saving version that fits.

  2. Make A Special Effort To Look Out For Strangers -

I saw an elderly lady on her knees in the street and she was unable to get up. I pulled over (I was driving) and helped her up. She said she was ok and I went back to the car, she wobbled again and I offered her a lift but she insisted she was near her home and was ok. I decided to watch her out of my window to make sure she made it in one piece. Also saw a fellow that had collapsed and held his hand and spoke to him as he was very scared whilst the ambulance arrived – made sure his belongings went with him safely to hospital also.

  3. Put A Save-A-Flush Device In Your Cistern -

I got my hippo free from Thames Water a couple of years ago but now you have made me think about it, I am going to get two more to give to my hubby to put in the cisterns in our new office.

  4. Energy Efficient Cooking -

Ooo goody having pasta for supper tomorrow night so will give this a try.

  5. Use 'real' nappies -

I am using the onelife birth to potty set of washables on my newborn. They do leak but then so do the disposables (I use Moltex when we are out and about and at night). I paid £275 for my set but have just received a cheque from my local council for £55 towards the cost which really helps. Plus I can re-use them on baby number 2 when that happens ;o)

  6. Post Your Packaging Back -

I have written to M&S who assure me they are always looking at ways to reduce and use recyclable packaging.

  7. Take A Mug To Work - don't use plastic -

We don’t use plastic cups at work but I have been making my hubby take a thermos mug with him each morning to fill with coffee at the garage rather than using their paper cups. I also took my thermos mug to the farmers market last week where I asked the ‘fairtraid, organic’ coffee man to fill me up rather than using paper cups again. I also use a tiffin tin when I go to my local deli, rather than getting them to use lots of paper bags and tubs for my sliced meats and cheeses maybe people could try doing that too? I do get some odd looks but they know me in there now and they said it’s a great idea.

  9. Switch it off at the Plug. (Don't Stand By.) -

I always switch off the TV & stereo but I need to remember to do the microwave and the oven tonight and from now on.

  10. Get Rid Of Some Of Your Books -

www.readitswapit.co.uk is a great site for recycling those old books as is greenmetropolis.

    Book crossing is fun too.

  11. Get Rid Of Some Of Your Books -

Have greenmetroploised a lot of books and readitswapit’d a few too. Joined the local library last week so no more new books for me.

  12. Switch To Good (Green Or Socially Resonsible) Energy -

Iv’e just switched to Ecotricity – I had been told that there is no such thing as an ethical ‘gas’ supplier – is this correct??

  13. Energy Efficient Cooking -

Tried it and my pasta was perfect – normally it is overdone so I am thrilled that my cooking has improved by way of saving a wee bit of energy. Did it on my spuds too :o)
