Recent Comments

  1. Wear Your 'Make Poverty History' Band -

Still wearing it, it’s been Grey for a long time now (dosn’t even change colour when washed any more…)

  2. Slow Down, Calm Down (Stick to the speed limit) -

This is really difficult on Motorways, but I’m getting there…. I have found that the increased MPG has made it much easier though…

  3. Buy Ethical Palestinian olive oil -

Good idea and didn’t about this one, so time to change oil me thinks! One tip though if you must buy food, buy in this order #1: Local Organic #2: Local #3: Fairtrade & Organic #4: Fairtrade #5: Organic

Maybe not what people like to do, but food miles are such a problem…

  4. Recycle Your Stuff -

My Local council also have started to do Kerbside collections and it’s great!! I can now recycle far more than I could previously as they take more material types than they had “Banks” for! Still can’t get rid of Cardboard though….

  5. Put A Save-A-Flush Device In Your Cistern -

Brought a ‘hog’ back from Greenbelt but my loo is too narrow – need to find something else as real bricks would pull it off the wall…...

  6. Organise Your Money (What You Want To Give Away) -

I’ve just moved this back to focusing on rather than done as we realised that although we increased the amount we were giving each year we didn’t look at who or what we were giving to. So we’ve stopped the standing orders and are actually thinking about to whom and why we are giving the money.

  7. Recycle Your Stuff -

We couldn’t compost the cardboard as we don’t have a garden, but the council have finally added cardboard recycling to 3 of their ammenity sites – hooray!

  8. Slap a Ticket on an Urban 4x4 -

I must admit this is one of my pet hates… and from a “Generous” point of view it’s fairly clear! Why does someone who lives in a city (or large town) need a 4 X 4? (AKA Chelsea Tractor) they appear to be merely a status symbol. If you live somewhere wild (or need to go out in very bad weather, then maybe a 30 Year old Series 3 is the right vehicle) then there is no problem, the issue is that most people who own then consider Tesco’s Car Park Off road… It’s a case of Size and status with no though for appropriateness

  9. Slow Down, Calm Down (Stick to the speed limit) -

My wife always drives at or just bellow the speed limit and the number of times people overtake her in town (she is doing exactly 30) makes me think that perhaps the best thing is that 1 offence in a Thirty (or Twenty limit) then you lose you licence.. I also agree with a Sheriff who said that Aggressive drivers should just have their Licences taken off them as they are a real danger to other road users… Sounds like a whinge but I saw too many kids in Hospital knocked over by Cars…..

  10. Save Paper and Packaging: Dump Your Junk Mail -

The RoyalMail info on ‘Optout’ advises you will not recieve government (local and national) info if you ‘optout’. I recieved the following from Postwatch when I queried this as I’d heard a Postwatch spokesperson say this was not correct on the BBC News:

“Postwatch is actively trying to obtain clarification from Royal Mail as to what information will not be effected by opting out of Royal Mail door to door.

We have written to Royal Mail today and a copy of our letter can be found on our website www.postwatch.co.uk under current issues, unwanted mail.”
