  1. Turn Off The Tap When Brushing Your Teeth -

At school, nearly 30 years ago, our geography teacher told us how much water was wasted in running the tap when we brushed our teeth, and that we should turn the tap off. I’ve done it ever since.

  2. Sign Up Online To Become An Organ Donor -

Some people find talking about this very difficult because it involves talking about a time when either they or a relative or friend has died. This seemed particularly hard for my parents, but my husband and I are both listed as organ donors, and know that each of us would wish to help someone else after our death. We both think it should be a system where everyone is included on the register unless we chose to opt out, because the time of death of a loved one is not a time when many people are not together enough to think about it, unless it is suggested to them. I don’t know how common it is for medical staff to make that suggestion to the next of kin of someone in those circumstances.

  3. Dry clothes outdoors. -

I’ve never owned a tumble dryer, and don’t want to. As well as wasting energy, my memory of the one we had when I was a child was that all my clothes were full of static electricity and my hair was constantly standing on end. I friend of mine had a combined washer/dryer and it went wrong and burnt the clothes. Another reason not to have one…

  4. Send Some Cards, Through The Bars. -

You can send cards to British Prisoners in gaol in other countries though the charity Prisoners Abroad too. They also have a penfriend scheme. www.prisonersabroad.org.uk

  5. Love books? Join the library -

Someone said to me that they thought the library didn’t have a good selection of the sort of books they’d want, like new books on environmental, trade and ethical issues. I said that I had borrowed several books like that, and that if more of us did, the library managers would know there was demand for this sort of reading, and expand the range.
