Needs Must! How Fuel Price Rises Are Boosting Car-Sharing.

The number of people sharing cars has soared since petrol prices have leapt. National car share operator www.liftshare.com has had an unprecedented rise in membership over the last few months as record numbers of people have signed up to find a car share match.

It is largely thought to be down to the heightened awareness amongst Britain’s motorists of the need to reduce their fuel bills. In less than three months more than 12,000 new members have signed up to www.liftshare.com in an attempt to cut their fuel bills and minimise their impact on the environment.

“The success of liftshare, particularly in recent months, is strong evidence that it’s possible for the UK to become a less car focused culture and goes to prove that travel habits can be changed, ” according to Ali Clabburn, founder of Liftshare. ” In the current climate more and more people are turning to car sharing.

“While I believe that the majority of people want to do more to help the environment it has taken the rise in fuel prices to really spur them into action. It’s great that the environment is going to benefit.”

Liftshare estimates that the average commuter can save around £1,000 a year by car sharing – and the site can also be used by non-drivers to find a lift, which is a great tool for absolutely anyone looking at improving their transport options.

You can register on the free website www.liftshare.com and – potentially – halve your petrol costs.
